We live in an HD world. Everyone has a high definition television, and now we want to capture all of our memories in HD so we can relive them in the best light possible.
Why do you need a high definition camera? Lets start with color. No matter how good your DV camera is, even if it is a 3-chip model, you are constrained by the DV format’s low bitrate dedicated to color information. If you zoom in on a single frame of colorful DV footage, you’ll see that the color data is at a much lower resolution then the luminance data. When the DV codec was being developed, they took advantage of the fact that people do not perceive color at as high a resolution as we do luminance.
So watching a DV clip, you won’t likely notice this loss of color information. But when a blue screen effect is used on DV footage, the edge of the effect will appear pixilated and… craptastic. Today’s blue screen effects often try compensate specifically for DV’s lower color resolution, but you can never fully make up for lost data, and a choice will be made between a pixilated edge, or a blurry one.
Aside from blue screens, the extra (or at least adequate) color information stored in HD footage lets you up the saturation. This is common for commercials and music videos. But doing so with DV footage screams out, “my color data was recorded at quarter resolution!”
Just ten years ago, it took a crew of hundreds, a budget of millions, a theater-sized editing bay, and a 100 lb., 35mm film camera to make a professional-quality movie. Not anymore. High definition digital camcorders have opened up this once inaccessible art form to the masses, with several pro cameras going for under $1,000!
Whether you’re planning to stream your movie in HD over the web, burn it to Blu-ray, or project it on a vast silver screen, all five of these Obsessable editor’s choices will meet your needs and help you fulfill your vision. Sundance and Cannes await!

Sandiego, CA on July 2nd, 2011 Equipment: Radian, spektrum 2.4ghz , Flip mino HD @ 60fps, and a 5.8ghz vtx (not shown). I decided to take my radian with me and my gear. I just had to see what it was like to fly near the ocean. It was awesome! I live in Arizona where there is not but a drop of water and is overly HOT! So I was esthetic with the cool weather and scenery. Hope you all like it! Music: free license, open sourced artists.

Father and son seven years of the launch with a camera and GPS in weather balloons. Arrive at 30 thousand feet PREPARATION – The mission took place last August, but to get to the fateful date of launch, it took months of study of materials and equipment to be prepared so that the camera could record the flight and the ball could reach as high as possible. Mission accomplished: the balloon inflated with helium – similar in all respects to the balloons that are launched with meteorological instruments inside – came in just over an hour up to 100 000 feet (more than 30 000 m height) before you break out and quickly return to Earth, just 30 miles from where he left (about 50 km). EQUIPMENT – A iPhone to track through the GPS coordinates of the ball, once brought back to earth, a high definition camera enclosed in a small box covered with insulating material (for shock and vibration data on the speed and the wind, but also for the temperature reaches 60 degrees below zero), and of course to allow the balloon to go as high as possible. To help his father (Luke is a cinematographer and director) came to the rescue also Max’s uncle, a professional body. Ready equipment, the dream of Midsummer begins in an August afternoon, a large open space in a park in upstate New York village of Newburgh. LANDING – Broke the ball and reached the highest point above the heavens, the fall was very rapid. On the descent, the contents into the GPS started to trace the coordinates of what remained …

Artist: Michael Jackson. Song performed: Billie Jean. Video restored by DorianDiaconu. Audio improved by DorianDiaconu. Watch in High Definition for best quality. Jackson planned upon filming this concert for a DVD release by Christmas time, so more camera angles (including individual crowd shots) were used, and the audio was later remastered heavily to emphasize the percussion and audience sounds. This concert was also an early experiment by Jackson with High Definition cameras. The release was ultimately cancelled due to Jackson’s dissatisfaction of the behind-the-scenes filming. However, the performance was televised extensively in many different countries, making it one of the most readily available concerts. The most common version is the one aired by Sat.1 and most other channels, but other versions, such as the one that aired in South Africa (with a small segment from a concert at Johannesburg), and a Japanese version with alternate camera angles also exist.
