The earth seen from space with ballon – iphone – cam (HD 720p)
Father and son seven years of the launch with a camera and GPS in weather balloons. Arrive at 30 thousand feet PREPARATION – The mission took place last August, but to get to the fateful date of launch, it took months of study of materials and equipment to be prepared so that the camera could record the flight and the ball could reach as high as possible. Mission accomplished: the balloon inflated with helium – similar in all respects to the balloons that are launched with meteorological instruments inside – came in just over an hour up to 100 000 feet (more than 30 000 m height) before you break out and quickly return to Earth, just 30 miles from where he left (about 50 km). EQUIPMENT – A iPhone to track through the GPS coordinates of the ball, once brought back to earth, a high definition camera enclosed in a small box covered with insulating material (for shock and vibration data on the speed and the wind, but also for the temperature reaches 60 degrees below zero), and of course to allow the balloon to go as high as possible. To help his father (Luke is a cinematographer and director) came to the rescue also Max’s uncle, a professional body. Ready equipment, the dream of Midsummer begins in an August afternoon, a large open space in a park in upstate New York village of Newburgh. LANDING – Broke the ball and reached the highest point above the heavens, the fall was very rapid. On the descent, the contents into the GPS started to trace the coordinates of what remained …
Great video! Any particular restrictions/suggestions from the FAA before launch?
That’s so cool, keep it up
That’s some cool shit
if i wanted to do that, i would send it during a storm or tornado
@manaljo dumbass it wouldn’t have reached terminal velocity because it had a parachute.
First of all, how were they able to retrieve the data? Telephone would be completely destroyed once it hits the ground at terminal velocity…..
That background sound sounds like a train going over tracks ….odd
that’s cool
1. how could you get the video when battery died?
2. how could you locate by GPS, have you a special app or? cause normal gps doesnt show altitude
3. How could you find the iphone when the battery malfunctioned?
4. Were you watching the video live from your computer, when ballon was flying?
5. How did you know all the altitude levels and velocity of the iphone?
Thats all, I will appreciate a lot if you answer! Btw one of the most amazing videos on youtube

@AlDaFunkyMonkey you’re welcome
@ciscop2000 ahh i see now
thank you for you’re explanation
@AlDaFunkyMonkey that was just the noise the microphone makes when there’s no air.
and plus. you have to go at least the speed of sound (as the space shuttle does) to burn up.
plus, that thing had a parachute. don’t worry, i thought the same thing as you. until i … watched this video.
op, never mind. i know.
Sorry to ruin things, but wouldn’t that thing burn up in the atmosphere? Just asking
